Today’s topic is about Dereproject: A vtuber who is also a blogger and general content creator as well on the web! What sorts of content do they create? What are their driving motivations to create and why and when did they get started? What caused them to shift their focus towards vtubers? That and more to follow!
Disclaimer: All art shared here are owned by their original creators! Dereproject did indeed commission me for this post, and I felt it necessary to leave that information here. However, I only take commissions and follow through on those that I find interesting, on topic, and relevant to talk about. I strive to always write with passion and their work genuinely surprised me so thank you to them for helping support me as well through this! Without further ado let us jump right into the corner of the internet that is Dereproject!
Content
Seeing as Dereproject is a vtuber but also a blogger with a variety of topics and content types I would love to start the blog with their content. First and foremost you can find their blog at Dereproject.com, which will take you to their landing page for their blog! You will see on their side bar that their blog is very well organized as well as one that is varied in content types, all seemingly themed around one major overarching theme; Otaku and streaming culture! If you are like me and many others as well and would rather watch a video/video essay, they also have you covered over at their youtube channel, where they step into the world of vtubing themselves and go over their posts in a video format!
The bulk of their content will be found on the blog posted above, as that has the most dedicated content created for it at the moment. It also, as listed above, has a variety of content types on their blog as well. They told me they started for the comic and anime content but shifted towards their vtuber content as of late and this can be seen as there are categories for anime, streaming, and multiple vtuber categories. I was a really big fan of their streamer content as well, as they have tips to start streaming if you are a general streamer or an aspiring vtuber.
When checking out their about me page, you get a sense for the type of culture and audience they are aiming for, a familiar one I would hope as my target audience is also near identical to theirs! They do a great job on their about me page describing what moe is, and their header lists off 4 different dere character types. This plays into what I wanted to discuss next as there was a webcomic!
If you want to read a short, bingeable webcomic then I urge you to check out dere*project! this is their own original comic series that they used to write, and although there seems to be a lot of chapters each chapter is about 4 to 5 panels big. Meaning this series is totally bingeable and convenient for short reads that draw the reader in slowly to each character. Now with a name like dereproject I bet you can tell the overarching theme for the characterization of this comic series. I really urge you to read it if you are big on moe and dere characterization as I found myself falling in and reading the first 15 or so chapters in this before coming back to writing!
Lastly, they had an old art page that they used to run over on deviant art as well! Their page can be found HERE incase that interests you as well. I recommend giving it a view as they have some really cool and interesting art over there and have no doubt with further love from their community they would not mind starting up again!
If you want to stay up to date on their happenings as well there are a multitude of social medias they use and can find on their blog site themselves so make sure to look for that on their blog page! I want to link their twitter specifically because that is where I am also found most often as well as the majority of the vtuber community so you can find their twitter through this hotlink as well!
Why the Vtuber space?
I was curious why DereProject went towards the vtuber space. I mean, looking back at their old focus and content creations across all boards they were and are super passionate about those as well and had their own sort of corner and niche when it came to their blog site and overall content. Sure vtubing is tangential to the anime space and I do believe it hard to like one and not like the other due to how tight some tropes are in the community down to the style of their avatars, but this is not law. For example there are people who are technically pngtubers who seems more on the fringes of the anime community and are more towards animation as a whole (Looking at people like Saberspark or even some story time youtubers who animate their content).
Dereproject told me that they had found the space itself really interesting and had been a fan of Kizuna Ai in the past. This led to a curiosity in them about her and her content. This is how most start, with a curiosity that leads down a rabbit hole of vtubing, which exactly happened with them as well! Dereproject noticed what I and many many others have, seeing all the growth and advances in the field and community in the past 5 or so years. Dereproject also stated that their day job is in the tech field so they also felt an affinity in the advances that the vtuber scene has brought; which I may add is quite hefty and often overlooked.
What About the Comics?
I was also curios as to why Dereproject’s comic series had been put on a hiatus, although I believe not officially. Naturally I asked them why because I saw there was a flow of passion, time, and hard work into their series. They told me that they sadly had to drop it due to time. There were many things in their life and there is only so much time to go around. With projects at their work and all these others forms of content they were pursuing there was just not enough time in a day to keep this up. They did say, however, that they would not mind picking it back up again but they need to find the time as they are being stretched between their projects. I just have to note that I love their last comic chapter was titled “waiting for new episodes” as there is undoubtedly someone who is waiting for that as well with their comic series.
Design
I always have to ask where vtubers get their design ideas as well so naturally I asked them too! I mean, a big part of vtubing is getting to represent yourself in any way that you want, be that personality, furry, angelic, anthro, alien, and the list goes on and on and on! This has to be one of the biggest aspects of vtubing I mean it IS what makes it vtubing after all. Dereproject told me that their design comes from Gilgamesh from the fate zero series! This inspiration came from the personality that Gilgamesh was portrayed having in the series and I can definitely see the resemblance! In particular, this model was crafted from constraints as Dereproject told me that it came from what was available from an app I had not heard of yet, called HYPER. Hop on over to their youtube linked up above to check it out I really liked their design especially after hearing about the constraints they had to work with!
Goals
I myself am very goal oriented. I understand that everyone may not be as strongly goal oriented as myself, but in a self driven system I feel that there is almost always at least something! In all my uni days I always heard setting goals can be a positive thing so I was curious what Dereproject’s were!
I think me and him share a good chunk of the first part, which is the goal of just doing something that is different from our day jobs. Something that he said is creative and I can feel that as well! I know that I need to remind myself at times that it is indeed a goal to just do something creative in the day and whenever I do I feel all the better for it. He also says that of course he would just love to see it get as big as it can, something I can totally relate to as well, but the day to day journey is for sure the best and most fun part! Dereproject also sites again that it is a huge interest to them because of the technical aspects of it all as it relates the massive interest in technology they have.
Finally, Any Sneak Peeks?
Lastly I wanted to ask if I could be privy to a sneak peek at the future of Dereproject! I was curious as to what they may have been doing behind the scenes that maybe their audience is unable to see but would be fun to announce or hear about. I really liked the answer, because I am a content and video content junkie! Dereproject told me to keep an eye out as he will have a lot more time in the near future to make video content and I am excited for what the future holds for him and all of his content avenues!
Closing
Dereproject is making amazing content and has so many different types! they have such a relatable story especially to me as another potential vtuber and blogger and I had a blast writing about them! They were super kind with the whole process and I could not thank them enough for helping to support me and to give me this opportunity!
