Vtuber Spotlight: Keina!

Today I am covering vtuber and artist Keina Nate! What sorts of content does he create? Does he stream games, only art streams, or a little bit of both? Why did Keina decide on his particular model and brand? All that and more to follow!

Disclaimer: all art that will be shown are created by Keina and are owned either by him or their respective figures. I do not claim to do any of the art shown and I hope that you will go and check out all his pages if you want more information on his art. With that out of the way lets dig into Keina!

Why He Became a Vtuber!

Longer time readers may already know this, but this is always my favorite question. How a vtuber came to the idea to start as a vtuber and the steps they took is something that interests me to no end. As such I would be delighted to share what Keina told me was the reason he became a vtuber!

As of writing this, Keina states he is fairly new to being a vtuber. Back in 2020 he had the most amazing job ever, he worked for Amazon. Not to knock anyone who enjoys that job or needs it to support themselves or others, but it was clearly something that Keina hated. Stating that it was the most miserable job of his life. One day, he caught the virus of 2020, and for him it was a blessing in disguise. At first, it was devastation, he was sick, and ended up losing his job. Thankfully he had enough saved up to support himself for a few months.

Because of this, Keina had a lot of time because of the bronchitis that ended up following his illness. With all this newfound time, he rekindled something that he had always loved, art. He ended up really diving deep into art while also consuming content on the side. Through this, he ended up stumbling upon Nyanner’s seiso cover and thought that it was the funniest thing ever! I think we all can guess where that went, to a deep dive down the vtuber rabbit hole. He ended up discovering Hololive and other vtubers on twitch.

This led to the discovery of a vtuber that would be an inspiration for him for a couple reasons. FoxyJoel was for one a male vtuber. This cleared up the misconception that many who first find vtubing have and that is only women do it or can be successful at it. This is something that still plagues even the community to this day, often with a back and forth on the different gender struggles as vtubers, and many a terrible take here and there. The second reason was because he did art, which Keina already was diving into quite deeply at the moment. Because of this, Keina decided to make himself what he says was a terrible model, and start streaming art, because of how badly he wanted to share his art with the world.

Your Branding & Why You Settled on Your Model?

Keina in all his pixellated glory!

For those who have never seen him before his whole brand and aesthetic can be summarized with the above tweet and gif. On stream, Keina often uses a pixel art model that looks roughly one to one with the art above. He is a pixel scientist that often calls his community the test subjects! I thought you all who have no idea who he is may want to know for the upcoming question.

How and why did you decide on your model!

I asked Keina what inspired his whole look and branding. I found that the scientist theme and branding was so unique and interesting. I have not found too many science based vtubers myself that are not robotic or cyborg in some shape or fashion. This all on top of the fact that he is a pixel model all really tied together uniquely well so I had to know.

The answer is quite funny in a way, Keina said that he had no planning whatsoever going into it. He was just feeling it out as he went along and that this is the current design which evolved over time. He started with a wizard with a big coat, that upon further inspection looked like a lab coat. This led to a eureka moment and He decided to follow it from there on. What is a scientist without a laboratory, so thus Keina then went on to make his channel name the laboratory and his followers his test subjects.

But how did we come upon the pixel artist brand for Keina? He told me that he started off with art that one can assume was a range of art. Because he said that he did not start off with pixel art, but because his pixel art exploded he decided to run with that for his branding. This led to a pixel model and assets to follow the rise of his public appearance as a pixel vtuber, wholeheartedly embracing it.

This was how I knew him when I found him. I saw him as a pixel artists, and as a budding pixel artist he was a huge inspiration of mine when it comes to my pixel work. He has even offered quick tips to me before on his channel and I am eternally grateful. This is the now current Keina, the pixel art scientist. I absolutely love his branding and I am glad that he could find a space for himself after such a horrible life experience that was Amazon. More often than not I see that vtubers begin after some horrible life experience and feelings of unhappiness so I am glad that he found a space for him to express himself!

Content.

Twitch.

The two main hubs for Keina’s content would be his Twitch that I just linked above and his Twitter linked at the beginning of this article. His twitch content often times will make its way over to twitter once completed but if you want to catch the process for his art live the Twitch channel is the place to be! Keina streams a lot of art content, not just pixel art content though. He has art talent that he streams more than just that as well as community art streams. Through his discord, his community shares what they have made and they go through them at least once a week. Not only this, but Keina is also branching out and starting to do gaming streams! So there is a little bit of everything if you are someone who loves games and art!

As far as his streaming style, I would describe it as sort of a fun and lax streaming style. The times that I was able to catch him live you can feel the love that he has for his community and viewers. He is someone who is willing to listen and help you out if it is art related, which I very much appreciated when I wanted a little bit of help when I was starting out! He also has some….cursed and really funny memes that he creates on streams at times like recreating the Anka meme if you know you know. Certainly really worth a follow if you want some really funny, honest, and helpful content that you can relax with! they have a relax with your friend vibe for sure.

Youtube

As of the day this article was published, Keina started up a Youtube channel linked above! as the channel has just budded, there is not too much to say about the channel. Right now at this moment, you can find his very first Youtube video along with some Youtube shorts. I went through every Youtube short and they were beyond hilarious! they tie back to sort of the humor you can find from him when it comes to his twitter account as well. For a lack of a better description, they are hilarious shitposts that often contain his funny moments on stream or with work that he has created so please go check that out as well I guarantee you a laugh from it!

Any Sort of Inside Jokes?

I also asked Keina if there are any inside jokes that he may have with his streams that he wouldn’t mind sharing. I love asking this because I hope that it can give you all a feel for the sort of streaming vibes and quirkiness you can get from a vtuber to showcase here a bit! I got a couple back from him that I thought were perfect.

So one joke was created because of an incident that happened on stream. Keina’s chat one day got filled with the phrase “Message Deleted” form his viewers and he was worried that people were getting banned. This then became a fun way to tease Keina now because of how he freaked out over the message.

And then we have one that every time I read it I chuckle to myself. There is this joke between him and his chat that “art is cringe”. it got to a point that whenever anyone says the word art, the night bot in his chat will automatically say the phrase as well. Something about this just makes me chuckle so much and I don’t know why it is beautiful!

Goals.

So we know what kind of content he makes and we know why. But another driving factor for human motivation is to set goals. Sometimes the goals are thought up after the fact some before. Most often though, goals that we have really seems to reflect in the content that we make! If numbers are the only goal then that often clearly reflect through the type of content you will see so naturally I asked Keina, what goals did you have when setting out??

The answer to this was literally that he had no big expectations or goals when going into vtubing. He started in February and he had a goal of reaching 100 followers by July. The funny part was that he ended up with 2K around that time! The main goal and driving force from the beginning was that he just wanted a community to talk to and interact with while he drew art. This easily shows through with his streaming to this day! He is so interactive with his community and does not shy away from a conversation that chat may bring. Because of this, he basically turned it into a career without the prior goal to do so in the end. Something that I am quite happy he was able to do and reach because he is such a unique and fun vtuber!

Closing.

With all that said and done, I can not recommend checking out Keina and his content enough. He is an amazing person and such a blast to work with through this whole endeavor! He worked with me on this given his quite busy schedule as he also had to work on commissions at the same time! Keina again one last massive thank you for working with me on this and letting me write about you I absolutely love your content and it is clear why others do as well! Everyone reading that hasn’t ever seen his art, I highly recommend checking out his twitter and his commissions page you will find over on his twitter when they open back up. That was Keina the pixel model scientist vtuber!

I hope you all enjoyed that article! If you did a comment, follow, and like would mean the world to me. I notice every comment and like that I get and it means the world to me.
