Today’s vtuber spotlight is on Kuakalakka! He is the second round of vtubers that was recommended from a previous creator. Pumpino gave him a recommendation and at the end of this I hope you all can see why, just like I have during this process. What kind of vtuber is he? Why did he start vtubing? all that and more below!
Disclaimer: As always, the art shown is not done or owned by me in any way. All art is linked back to their creators when applicable, and I urge you to check them out whenever possible. With that out of the way let us dive into Kuak!!
Story.
As you all know, I find this to be the staple of my spotlights. I am always excited to hear about each and every vtubers story, why they decided they wanted to be vtuber. So why did Kuak decide to become a vtuber?
Kuak had the misfortune of graduating the same year I did, around May of 2020. This was a time when the pandemic was just hitting full swing and people were realizing that this issue would not just disappear in a matter of months. So with that said, he ended up doing what I did after graduation, playing video games and watching content. During this time of content binging, he found a particular video, it was one of a dog vtuber that was part of Hololive! I am sure you all know who I am talking about, and because of her videos he was hooked. He was going down the rabbit hole of vtubers for about a month or two before he realized that vtubing can be done independently. he found indie vtubers and found inspiration, thinking to himself that he could do that as well.
He was then spurred to start the creation of his vtuber model. He had not drawn for four years until that point, so suffice it to say it was a bit of a rough start. Those four years was a massive art block for him, so he was delighted to find motivation to create again, shaking off the rust of his art skills in the process. In total, it took him about 4 months to create a design that he liked as well as to learn Live2d. The biggest inspiration to him was Hololive because, like I just mentioned, he was forever grateful to them for breaking his four year long artist block and help him to start creating again.
What is his model and why did he chose it?

You can see in the image above that Kuak’s model is based on Calaveras, or more specifically the concept of Catrina in the sense that he is fully dressed and not just a skull. Through all my conversations with him there were two things about him that rung the loudest for me and that was his kind inviting personality, and his love for his culture. The latter being the reason that he settled for his vtuber model design. He wanted something that would represent him and his culture very clearly, and it was a home run!
He was content with the idea that his model was easy to rig and also represented his culture, but it also more specifically speaks about him and his journey. He used to be a content creator way before the events of his story that led up to him becoming a vtuber. Because of this he liked the idea that his model represents his content through the premise of Día de Muertos. He loved the premise that the holiday brings with it, the idea that death is not the end of our stories. Where his previous content creation journey died, his current one is ongoing through that death.
His Twitch content.
Kuak does a variety of different content types on his twitch channel. All of what I was able to view was from whatever was recently saved. Meaning I personally was only able to view his gaming content, but he does stream a variety. For example, he states that he will stream art, as well as stream himself singing sometimes. So please do check those out whenever you can if they interest you.
But what about his streaming style? Every streamer when streaming anything brings their personality or persona to their streams to instill a certain vibe, or energy to their audience. He described it exactly as I would as well after having tuned in and watching older vods. In two separate instances he described his content as a lot of silliness and insane. This is something I would totally agree with and I know he means that in the best way possible. Everyone knows that streamer that just gets into some shenanigans, or have a chaotic chat that adds to the laughter of whatever is happening.
His content as a whole does not overwhelm you, but it really can get chaotic with some of the really funny redeems that his channel has. All of which does what I think he wants it to, which is to entertain and bring smiles to his audience. He is a really kind person from my interactions and Pumpino said he was one of her best friends in a short amount of time and that he helped her through her journey of streaming. Because of this and the welcoming energy he gives I can tell that all the craziness and love he has for his culture and his audience, he just wants to spread that in his own extremely funny and exciting way. I know that upon leaving his stream I felt happier and more energetic from it personally!
Stream commands, running gags from his audience, etc.
Here I would like to add to the content section from a specific question that I asked him. I asked if he had any stream commands or running gags perhaps throughout his stream. His response certainly did not disappoint me in the slightest!
He started out by saying that he likes to let the chat torture him. This is exaggerated of course and he means that he likes to give his audience the means to incite that funny chaos we were talking about before. He does this through the channel point redeems that he has created. One that was redeemed while I was there was monkey flip, and all I have to say is that it was hilarious and that you need to go and check it out for yourself!
He also has a couple sound commands that the audience can use as well. Some of which are from his voice impressions. He also stated that there are a lot of commands that he is even unaware of, as his mods have taken hold of that domain. Meaning there are many that even surprise him which can lead to even funnier moments on the channel that his audience can start! When it comes to commands, he left me with the fact that he claims himself a pervert at times and that the chat has a command for this that has been used more than two hundred times. For me personally, if I was to catch those moments I would die laughing!!
Goals he had when starting out.
I asked him if he had any goals when he set out to do vtubing. We have seen with other vtubers that often times, their goals when they set out are very visible in their content. Goals can be something that enriches content and drives the process forward, and for Kuak the main goal was to make more vtuber friends.
Since his main goal was met and yet was something that had no limit, he also had a second goal in mind. That was to become famous to some degree. He wanted some degree of exposure, and told me that it was naive. I do not agree, I think that it is perfectly normal and ok to want to become famous. Many who want to get some sort of exposure have found that self made content is the future of this, somewhere where anyone can become famous if they have the time, energy, and some luck. So I personally wish him luck on that journey.
But just like that famous saying, it is about the journey and not the destination. Kuak has found that creating content is just so fun for him that he has stopped worrying about the viewer count. This has to be one of the most common and powerful things a creator can do for their own health. Trying to chase the fame by worrying about how well something did all the time would wear someone into the ground. So I was very happy to hear that he can put the numbers aside and do what he loves, simply for the joy of it at the end of the day.
Side projects.
Lastly, I asked if he had any projects that were not related to his content creation directly. He said that there really is only one that he is doing that would count as a side project. One that I am excited myself to hear!
He said that he has been practicing singing for about 5 months. He long singing and has been doing song covers as practice to better his singing voice and talent. I can’t wait to hear how great his covers are when he is comfortable and ready to share this progress with his audience.
Closing.
Before I close out there was a couple things he wanted me to share that I was unsure where they fit into the article so I would like to share them here, even if it is a bit in-cohesive to the article. He wanted me to share that he would love for others to learn about his culture more, especially Día de Muertos and Mexican Cuisine. If you just go and ask him he would more than happily teach you more about them, as he has for me even if briefly. Also that he uses streaming to practice his English and Japanese, and that his first and native language is Spanish. With all of that said I really urge you to check him out if anything here sounds like it is up your alley, I know he will gladly have you!
Hey everyone, thank you for reading this weeks vtuber spotlight. It was a real blast working with Kuak and he really is a super nice guy.
