Story before vtubing.

Prior to vtubing Honey was doing what most of us on a daily basis try to do, have fun! She was working full time and doing art as a hobby to pass the time, as well as running a DND tavern over on Instagram called Honey’s Homebrew (which she still runs to this day). All while she was living her life she was about to discover something that would inspire her towards vtubing.

That would be the discovery of Hololive over on YouTube. She was genuinely impressed by the idea of having virtual animated characters interacting in real time with chat through live streams and content creation. Her first experience was with Mori Calliope, but it wasn’t until she found Inomae and her calm and soothing content that she was truly invested in the medium.

Her curiosity of the technical side of vtubing led her down the rabbit hole of tutorials on YouTube. Vtubing software is incredibe and something I don’t quite know completely myself, but that amazing allure pulled her in as she thought it was truly fascinating. This led to her toying around in Cubism, because she had experience rigging 2d animated builds in harmony and flash. Because of her experimenting and learning with Cubism, she came up ideas seemingly overnight of what she wanted to rig, how to make what she rigged move, and what kind of rigging techniques she could apply.

Honey also had a coworker around this time that was also getting into vtubing. He was a great source of support for her when it came to vtubing and encouraged her to go all in on this project, giving her the courage to not feel scared about vtubing. This led to her studying a bunch of material for Cubism in January of this year, and later buying a subscription for Cubism.

Finally, she sat down and made her vtuber model herself. She made what she describes as the puffy sleeve model first. When she completed it she had about 2 more weeks of the service left so she decided to make two more outfits for her model. This is why you will see that she has a total of 3 different outfits for her goblin model when she is streaming, she has a tavern outfit, Pj’s, and a dress.

Then she did what we all do, forgot to cancel her auto renewal for her subscription service. Because of this she made a twitter to show off her model and how it was rigged. She had the service now for another month, so she wanted make good use of it and that she did. She held a raffle for 3 chibi models and received a massive turnout for this. She said she was incredibly surprised by the amount of responses she got for this project.

Why a goblin?

I want to start this new segment in my vtubers spotlight asking about their model. Why did they make their model the way they did, and of course Honey had a great answer for this question.

Honey stated that she went with a goblin because she already had a deep connection with her goblin character through DND. She had in the past considered doing more of an anime/Hololive like model, but no real design vibed with her and didn’t stick around long. She really loves the world that DND creates, and the fun adventures she gets to go on with her friends, meaning she was much more connected to her goblin self than any of the anime like designs she thought of. She was worried at first, but found that this look suits her the best.

Content.

Before I mention the content I want to add in something that she mentioned to me that I find interesting. She stated that she did not plan to make a living off of vtubing, that creating content for her is an escape from work and that going full time might spoil that fun for her. I found that interesting as most of the time many hope to make a living off of it, I know at least I do. Because of this you can see such a loving and positive effect that her outlook has on her content. She is not here to try and always up her numbers and outshine others, she is here to have a fun time and play some games with her chat and I can highly respect that!

Twitch

As far as her content over on twitch, I just want to talk about the type and the vibe. I have tuned in to a couple live streams, and all I can say is that it is a blast! The content type she streams is a little bit of everything that you may see from a vtuber, gaming content, some art streams that includes a myriad types of art, and of course just chatting.

The one common theme for all three of her stream types is her personality that she brings to the table. Honey is just as sweet and that moniker says she is, and that really shows with her chat. They all, me included, get excited just to hang with her and have some fun and laughs. With her personality and streaming style it really feels just like hanging out with a friend on the weekends. She is incredibly kind and sociable to her chat no matter what type of stream and it just makes you, as a viewer, feel like your stress of the week is melting away. That sweetness, kindness, and wholesomeness is always brought to stream with her and it makes her feel very real and draws an amazing crowd.

Youtube.

There is not much too much to say about her youtube in terms of content, because it is a place to upload vods for her twitch. Meaning you’ll find older videos over there instead of twitch in case you are wanting to binge some Honey content. Nothing too crazy but I felt was definitely worth mentioning and linking to as well here. If you love her live streams and want to watch vods, you won’t be disappointed going here!

Side projects.

Here is where I asked if she had any projects going that were not directly related to streaming. They could be involving personal growth, the vtubing community, and maybe even the process was live streamed, but they were all things that were not just streaming content. With that said she gave me a couple small ones, all related to art, I would like to list here:

  • She said that she generally wants to improve her drawing skills and speed when it comes to art.
  • She is working on a small album of Polaroid pictures where she tries different rendering styles and backgrounds.
  • She wants to do something related to music, saying she might like to do an animation in relation to a song, or maybe make her own music. She says she has a ukulele but has no knowledge of music.
  • Lastly, she is going to be opening commissions for vtubing rigging soon, so watch out for that!

Closing.

There was something that Honey said to me that I want to lead off with. She stated something that I wholeheartedly agree with, which was that vtubing is a way for others to express themselves with a lot less fear. To be someone or something that they may not be able to be in real life, or to just have some confidence as they express who they are online. That the community really is incredibly friendly and uplifting and that she might not be where she is at without the community. I can never agree more than I do with this sentiment. The community, fans, and viewers really are amazing, and allow people like me and Honey to be who we want a lot easier than we may have been without you all!
